VK-1 Viking Synthesizer is an authentic emulation of a classic monophonic analog synthesizer. It has three continuously variable wave oscillators, two ladder filters with a Dual Lowpass or Highpass/Lowpass configuration, a multi-wave LFO, and two modulation busses. VK-1 uses state of the art DSP technology to accurately reproduce the sound of the hardware.
VK-1 comes with 228 presets in the categories Bass, Bright Lead, Electro Bass, FX, Percussive Lead, Soft Lead, and Synthwave. The 50 Electro Bass and 50 Synthwave presets were created by experienced sound designer eXode. The synth excels at thick bass and rich lead sounds.
At the heart of VK-1 are three adjustable wave oscillators. The continuously variable waveform knob gives the oscillators a unique sound that can’t be achieved with the fixed waveforms found in most synths. A noise oscillator provides three types of noise.
Two modulation busses and an LFO provide flexible modulation capabilities.
The filter is a classic transistor ladder filter modeled meticulously. Different drive modes are available for adding grit. The number of poles is adjustable for a wider range of filter sounds.
VK-1 has cutting edge DSP technology:
– VK-1’s oscillators have been measured from hardware
– VK-1’s oscillators have drift and jitter
– VK-1’s oscillators use advanced techniques to avoid aliasing
– VK-1’s filters are nonlinear ZDF with carefully tuned self-oscillation
– VK-1’s envelopes have been matched to hardware
New for VST
The graphics of VK-1 have been completely redone with Retina support. Using experience gained over the past several years, the sound quality has been updated to sound more rich, smooth, and creamy.
VK-1 VSTi is a 64 bit VSTi2 plug-in compatible with macOS and Windows.
Over 2021, after the succesful release of Surge 1.9, the Surge Synth team undertook an effort to rebuild Surge in JUCE and add a variety of features. This project resulted in the new version of Surge, called ‘Surge XT’.
Synthesis method: Subtractive hybrid
Each patch contain two scenes which are separate instances of the entire synthesis engine (except effects) that can be used to create layered or split patches.

Runs on a variety of operating systems, plugin formats, and architectures
3 oscillators per scene, with 12 versatile oscillator algorithms: Classic, Modern, Wavetable, Window, Sine, FM2, FM3, String, Twist, Alias, S&H Noise and Audio Input.
Classic oscillator is a morphable pulse/saw/dual saw oscillator with a sub-oscillator and hard sync.
Modern oscillator is a mixable saw/pulse/triangle oscillator with an optional sub-oscillator mode for triangle (which can also change to sine or square) and hard sync.
FM2/FM3 oscillators consist of a carrier and 2 or 3 modulators and various options.
String oscillator uses two filtered waveguides to emulate plucked or bowed string sounds.
Twist oscillator is based on a very famous Eurorack macro oscillator, and it offers a myriad of synthesis options in a very simple and quick way.
Most algorithms (except FM2, FM3, Twist and Audio Input) offer up to 16-voice unison at the oscillator level.
Oscillator FM in 3 different configurations and ring modulation between oscillators 1-2 and 2-3.
Most oscillator algorithms (except FM2, FM3, Sine and Alias) are strictly band-limited, yet still cover the entire audible spectrum, delivering a clear, punchy and clean sound.
Noise generator with variable spectrum (available directly in the oscillator mixer).
Two filter units in 8 different configurations.
Feedback loop available in 7 of those configurations.
Available filter algorithms: Lowpass (12 and 24 dB/oct, each with 3 variations), Legacy Ladder Lowpass (6-24 dB/oct), Vintage Ladder Lowpass (2 variations, each with and without gain compensation), Highpass (12 and 24 dB/oct, each with 3 variations), Bandpass (12 and 24 dB/oct, each with 3 variations), Notch (12 and 24 dB/oct, each with 2 variations), Allpass (3 variations), Comb (positive and negative), S&H.
Open-source additions to our filter algorithms include: K35 and Diode Ladder filter types from Odin 2 synthesizer, 12 and 24 dB/oct multimode filters from OB-Xd, and weird but fascinating Cutoff Warp, Resonance Warp and Tri-Pole filters by Jatin Chowdhury!
Filters can self-oscillate (with excitation) and respond amazingly fast to cutoff frequency changes.
Waveshaper (43 shapes).
12 LFO units available, 6 are per voice and 6 are global for the whole scene.
DAHDSR envelope generators on every LFO.
LFO shapes consist of 7 deformable LFO waveforms, step sequencer, a fully-fledged multi-segment envelope generator (MSEG) with various curves and up to 128 nodes, and last but not the least – a formula modulator which utilizes Lua scripting language to provide completely custom modulator output.
Voice LFOs allow envelope retriggering in step sequencer mode.
Extremely fast and flexible modulation routing. Almost every continuous parameter can be modulated!
16 effect units arranged as 4 inserts per scene, 4 sends and 4 master effects.
Free Home is here
You sent us samples, and we made an awesome library. Free Home is the culmination of hours of recordings from our dedicated customers and hundreds of hours of programming and design from our team. Free Home is the ultimate collaboration.
It’s the official follow-up to our popular Free ASMR, Free Angels, Free Radicals, and Free You libraries, which were also created in collaboration with our awesome community of users. The idea with Free Home was to create an instrument using a collection of sounds recorded in our users’ homes. So we asked that people recorded or designed five or more sounds from their home, whether percussive, melodic, or atonal.
Created with you—for you
We ended up receiving over 800 samples from our community. Using your contributions, we edited, programmed, and designed the entire collection into a large assortment of soothing, detailed, and fun instruments. No restrictions, no rules, no limits. This became the ultimate collaboration for us, resulting in Ambience, Sound Design, Custom Instruments, Noises, and Percussion libraries—containing 20 presets designed for everyone to explore.
It was truly a joy creating this library and we hope that you enjoy it too—on the house.

From Their Home To Yours
All the content from the library was created by our fans. Our job was to curate all the samples, edit them, clean them, make them sound spectacular, categorize them and create this library. All kudos go to our fans who dared to enter this challenge of collaboration. We are grateful for their awesome response and dedicate this library to all of them
8Dio Free Home uses our top-notch Legion GUI, which allows the users to customize their sounds to perfection. Along with our latest CHAOS, this GUI contains four XY-Pads that can be assigned to any sound effect you want with any setting you want. Assign the X and the Y control to your midi keyboard and start moving around effects in an unconventional way. This is the perfect addition to a non-conventional library. It’s all about innovation and new paths to explore music.
