What? Shortcircuit is open source? Well yes, but there are big big caveats. Right now there are no downloadable assets you can get to play music, and there is no runnable open source Shortcircuit plugin. We estimate this will be the case for much of 2021, and maybe indefinitely. You may never be able to run an open source Shortcircuit. Might just be too much work. But if you are dev you can help!

What was Shortcurcuit?
Shortcircuit was created as a reaction against the ongoing trend where software samplers are being designed with the primary intent of library playback.

It is intended for people who, like us, consider a sampler to be a musical instrument in its own right, and not just a way to emulate other instruments. It has been a very high priority to make sure that adding and editing individual samples is as fast and logical as possible.

The sample hierarchy in shortcircuit allow you to place samples directly at the highest level of the multi, without having to deal with instrument hierarchies and patches. Want to add a sample to your song? Just drag & drop the sample into shortcircuit and you’re ready to go. Samples can be put in groups for multi-sampling and kit-building, but the complexity is only there when you need it

Sound quality is of highest concern, and shortcircuit uses very high-quality interpolation to ensure that your samples sound as good as the source material, regardless of the pitch you play them at. All filters & effects are calculated at the precision required for them to sound the way intended and oversampling are used when required to prevent aliasing.

Shortcircuit was designed to sound great, all other concerns have been secondary. But don’t take our word for it, download ‘shortcircuit free’ and find out for yourself.

Each voice in shortcircuit features two filter-slots, and the selection isn’t limited to the traditional pick. In addition to the regular lowpass/highpass/bandpass/notch & peak-filters and variations thereof there is an array of filter algorithms (not strictly filters in the traditional sense, but called so because of their location in the audio path) including distortion, parametric/graphic/morphing equalizers,bit-reduction/decimation, gating, limiting, slew-rate distortion, ring-modulation, frequency shifting and phase-modulation (better known as FM). The selection even includes analog-style oscillators that you can mix with the sample.

Fire by Wings Music 0 (0)

Fire1 Fire2

Fire is a multiband distortion / downsampler plugin.

 • Drive: has several distortion functions. There are two buttons “L” and “S” related to drive knob, and each means “Link” and “Safe”. “Link” means when your turn up drive knob, the output knob value will automatically reduce. “Safe” means if your drive knob pushes your volume too loud, it will automatically reduce your drive value. It also shows reduced value on drive knob.
 • Compressor: you can change threshold and ratio for each band.
 • Width: change audio width.
 • Filter: you can set lowcut, highcut, and peak. Lowcut and highcut each has four slopes (12, 24, 36, 48) you can choose.
 • Downsample: downsample your audio.
 • HQ: 4x oversampling for high quality audio.
 • A/B: switch between A/B to compare.

Warning: This is early beta version. Don’t use it for production!

T30-GP_3

T30-GP is a sampled Grand Piano.

It was sampled from a portable digital keyboard based on a Steinway Grand Piano samples. It was known for its good sound and great ability to cut through the mix.

Maybe not your first choice piano to play your favourite Chopin pieces, but certainly a good addon for any genre in modern music.

 • 88 sampled notes.
 • 3 velocity layers.
 • 264 samples (16 bit / 44100).
Mac users : this plugin may not be compatible with recent OS versions…

HoRNet Valvola by HoRNet 0 (0)

screenshot-valvola

HoRNet Valvola (the Italian word for vacuum tube) it’s an emulation of the electric behavior of a vacuum tube and its surrounding circuit.

The sound of the plugin is as close as you can get to the real tube behavior since the code it’s the direct modeling of the circuit characteristics obtained directly simulating the tube and the biasing circuit around it.
The same technology is found inside our Guitar Kit plugin and Analog Stage plugin and we decided to give it away for free because we are proud of it.

Valvola comes with many different vacuum tube emulations, including triodes and pentodes, from the classic 12AX7 used in pre amplifiers to the EL84 power tube, well using more than one instance of Valvola you could create your little tube amplifier emulation.

The typical tube distortion that Valvola provides is not static but changes with your music since tubes has some kind of “memory effect” that actually change their bias point if they processed high levels (this is the case with heavy bass drums, bass synths or guitars) in practice they distort more with low frequency peaks. Also vacuum tubes are not linear in frequency response and each one has its own characteristic sound that we carefully modeled using the original tube parameters.

All these interactions are controlled using just one “saturation” knob that also keeps the level constant so you can just add distortion without adding gain and keeping the aliasing at minimum thanks to the intelligent oversampling up to 4x.

HoRNet Valvola comes with an hardware accelerated graphic interface that is completely resizable and drawn using vectorial techniques so that it looks sharp and perfect on every monitor size.

Features:

 • Tube circuit emulation using electrical simulation.
 • Seven different tube types including triodes and pentodes.
 • Intelligent oversampling up to 4x.
 • macOS (10.11 and later) and Windows (Vista and later) support.
 • 64-bit only on both on Mac and Windows.
 • Audio Units VST2.4, VST3 and AAX format.

FMino by Gyl-Synths 5 (2)

2SUm43H

FMino is a minimalistic 4 op FM and a simple VA synth in one – my Christmas gift for you.  Smile
In VA mode – using the independent outputs – you can make for example a 3 voices unison + a sub or a 2 osc VA sound + a 2 op FM or what you want…
The oscillators’ sine wave can be morphed to a square-like trapezoid or saw-like shapes by adjusting the self-feedback in the FM mixer (1>1, 2>2,…).
The operators’ amp envelope can be switched to Attack-Release mode from the default Attack-Decay mode.
The Pith LFO has 1 level knob for all ops, while the Pitch AD envelope depth can be independently adjusted op-by-op.
Vastly simplified the tuning of oscillators, only …,-24, -19, -12, -7, 0, 7, 12, 19, 24, … semitone setting are in the 5TH control + there is a FINE knob to create unison effect for the VA mode.
In the FM MATRIX the big knobs adjust the usual modulation directions (up-to-down), the small knobs are used to the feedback (self or down-tu-up).
Each operator has a direct output. In te Amp 1-4 section you can adjust the levels and the pan position.
Added a filter to it with bypass, LP, BP and HP modes. The independent Filter AD envelope can be used to modulate the cutoff.
The Effect section has a Chorus, a stereo Delay and a Reverb to add some spice to the sounds.
The Step Arpeggiator has a default octave-based mode, but can be switched to a narrow Seq mode too – with only -5…+5 semis range.
Added an FM VELO knob to it. This affect all level knobs in the FM Matrix.
Lot of Random and Init functions can create crazy results or a starting point to an uncommon sound.
The GUI can be re-sized from 50 to 200% in 10% steps.
The ModWheel adjusts the pre-set Pitch LFO depth, the PitchWheel has -2…-2 semitones range.
Just to check the functions, I made 20 presets. Feel free to modify or delete them and make your own sounds to your music style!  Smile
Here is the link to the zip (32 & 64 bit Win VSTi, made with an older FS Alpha, so maybe XP users can use it too):

Free Home is here
You sent us samples, and we made an awesome library. Free Home is the culmination of hours of recordings from our dedicated customers and hundreds of hours of programming and design from our team. Free Home is the ultimate collaboration.

It’s the official follow-up to our popular Free ASMR, Free Angels, Free Radicals, and Free You libraries, which were also created in collaboration with our awesome community of users. The idea with Free Home was to create an instrument using a collection of sounds recorded in our users’ homes. So we asked that people recorded or designed five or more sounds from their home, whether percussive, melodic, or atonal.

Created with you—for you
We ended up receiving over 800 samples from our community. Using your contributions, we edited, programmed, and designed the entire collection into a large assortment of soothing, detailed, and fun instruments. No restrictions, no rules, no limits. This became the ultimate collaboration for us, resulting in Ambience, Sound Design, Custom Instruments, Noises, and Percussion libraries—containing 20 presets designed for everyone to explore.

It was truly a joy creating this library and we hope that you enjoy it too—on the house.

Explore the Home
Explore 25 custom made instruments separated into five patches. Homebody Ambience, Designed, Instruments, Noises, and Percussion.

From Their Home To Yours
All the content from the library was created by our fans. Our job was to curate all the samples, edit them, clean them, make them sound spectacular, categorize them and create this library. All kudos go to our fans who dared to enter this challenge of collaboration. We are grateful for their awesome response and dedicate this library to all of them

Intuitive GUI
8Dio Free Home uses our top-notch Legion GUI, which allows the users to customize their sounds to perfection.
